HELIX's Construction Group, is seeking a highly motivated Landscape Habitat Restoration Lead to join our team at our Los Angeles County location in El Monte. This position provides direct support to the Restoration Supervisor. We pride ourselves on commitment to excellence. To make it happen, we know it takes a team and diligent effort. HELIX provides, habitat restoration, biological consulting, landscape architecture, cultural resource management, regulatory permitting, environmental compliance monitoring, CEQA/NEPA acoustics and noise control, air quality and greenhouse gas, and GIS services to both the public and private sectors. Responsibilities/Duties The Habitat Restoration Lead duties include crew oversight at maintenance and/or construction sites. On a day-to-day basis, the Habitat Restoration Lead is responsible for transporting the crew from our HELIX locations to their jobsites in a company vehicle (which may at times include hauling a trailer), executing daily safety tailgate meetings and ensuring crews are following HELIX safety standards, training and directing crew members to perform tasks as assigned and performing these tasks alongside the crews, occasional client and project manager interaction, and reporting data as requested. Habitat Restoration Leads also participate in multiple training programs periodically. Additional responsibilities may be required and/or vary by project/task. Occasional out-of-town travel is required. This is not a landscaping company or position. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as good writing and communication skills. Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of landscape and/or habitat restoration experience
  • Ability to operate a smart phone and electronic devices such as a tablet, iPad, etc. for reporting purposes
  • Willingness to travel out of town occasionally (will include overnight stays)
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record over the last three years
  • Must be physically able and willing to work in varying terrain (including uneven surfaces and steep slopes) and weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to operate small equipment (weed whacker, chainsaw, backpack sprayer, hedger, pole saw, etc.)

  • Knowledge of native plants and weed species
  • Plan reading and takeoff experience
  • Grading experience
  • Planting experience
  • Knowledge of Best Management Practices
  • Mechanical skills
  • Minor electrical experience
  • Fence installation experience
  • Irrigation systems experience – installation, layout, valves, controllers, troubleshooting/repairs, etc.
  • Previous experience in a crew lead position

HELIX is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Biology Project Manager with critical thinking skills and a strong work ethic to join our Placer County team (Roseville office location). HELIX offers biological and cultural resources, regulatory permitting, landscape architecture, acoustical, air quality, and GIS services to both the public and private sectors. Responsibilities/Duties The Biology Project Manager responsibilities include managing regulatory permitting and biological resources-related projects, leading both regulatory permit applications and biological technical report preparation in accordance with agency requirements and serving as regulatory permitting and biological resources lead during environmental review of projects by the appropriate jurisdictions and agencies. The position also will include resource agency consultation and permitting, client coordination, and preparation of proposals and related business development activities. The ideal candidate must possess strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills because critical aspects of this position include developing solutions for project challenges, forging strong, collaborative relationships, and building consensus among team members, clients, and agencies (please give some examples in cover letter). The Biology Project Manager may be required to conduct biological fieldwork on occasion; however, primary responsibilities are not fieldwork related. Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an environmental science, biology, or related field (degree in biochemistry or microbiology not acceptable).
  • Minimum 5 years’ demonstrated experience in the environmental field carrying out biological resources or similar projects as a consultant or agency staff member.
  • Minimum 2 years focused experience serving as project manager on multiple projects for a variety of clients, including direct client and agency interface, managing sub consultants, reviewing work products, and completing multiple and simultaneous tasks within time and budget constraints; management of compliance programs and renewable energy projects would not be sufficient for this experience requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and assisting with business development and marketing efforts, including proposal preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing biological technical reports and related CEQA reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Additional Qualifications Considered a Plus 
  • A master’s degree or higher in biology, natural resources, or related field.
  • Strong client and agency relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or assisting with regulatory permitting in California with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Regional Water Quality Control Board.
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent, large-scale biological, natural resource, or similar projects in California for both public and private sector clients.
  • Experience preparing or managing biological resources technical studies in Northern California and the Central Valley.
  • Experience managing or preparing CEQA and NEPA documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of larger proposal efforts and participation in interviews.
Salary Pay will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $84,000 to $115,000 annually. HELIX is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for fieldwork opportunities in central and northern California. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your skills, abilities, and suitability for potential longer-term opportunities with an established, well-regarded, and employee-owned environmental consulting firm. We are looking to deepen our pool of seasoned technicians and identify emerging-career professionals who may be well suited to join the HELIX team. As-Needed Archaeologists responding to this ad would be attached to either the Folsom or Roseville northern California office or be fully remote. Individuals located in the greater Sacramento area and the San Francisco Bay area are especially encouraged to apply. Anticipated Work Schedule: Field assignments will be project specific and will depend on the volume of work at any given time. Assignments would occur during the normal work week (Monday through Friday), with occasional requirement for weekend work. Any hours worked in excess of eight each day will be paid at an overtime rate (1.5x regular pay). Overnight stays and extended field assignments are common. In these cases, HELIX will provide lodging and per diem for days worked. Work Location: Throughout central and northern California in a variety of locations and terrains. Professional Kit Expectations: Candidates will be expected to possess the gear necessary for conducting field work, including appropriate outdoor clothing, sturdy hiking boots, and tools (i.e., a “field kit”) necessary to complete ordinary and industry-standard survey and excavation tasks, including metric tape measures, sight-bearing compasses, clip boards, and trowels. Anticipated Tasks:
  • Archaeological Survey in a variety of terrain types, including both rural and urban settings; conditions will occasionally be physically challenging
  • Daily hours and durations of project will vary from project to project
  • Identification and documentation of precontact and historic-era cultural resources through field survey
  • Participation in field excavation as part of Phase I, II, and III investigations
  • Use of Android Tablets and Survey123 software to collect and manage field data
  • Collection of GPS data for site management
  • Cultural resource monitoring during construction projects and ground disturbing activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the HELIX Senior Staff
Desired Qualifications:
  • Successful candidates will be familiar with the principles of archaeological field survey techniques, be competent in the collection of archaeological field data, and should possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicants must have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, experience working in a team-oriented environment, and the ability to complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Familiarity with the range of archaeological site types and cultural resources/material culture commonly found on cultural resource sites within central and northern California is also strongly desired.
Minimum Requirements for Archaeological Field Technicians:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with the principles of archaeological field survey.
  • Competent in the collection of archaeological field data.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work in challenging terrain and remote locations that often require strenuous hiking in adverse weather.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, or capacity to arrange for travel to and from the project provided lodging at the start and end of the project (HELIX staff may be able to assist with this transportation).
Additional skills considered a plus for Archaeological Field Technicians:
  • Demonstrated completion of an archaeological field school.
  • Proven track record of previous cultural resource management work, including archaeological surveys, excavations, and site recordings.
  • Master’s degrees in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with, and experience working on archaeological site types and cultural resources/material culture commonly found throughout California’s central valley, the San Francisco Bay area, and the Sierra Nevada.
Hourly wages will be based on qualifications and experience. Starting salary ranges between $25 to $30 per hour and will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience.
