HELIX held a three year on-call contract with the County of Tuolumne to conduct cultural resources surveys and designate cultural sites in preparation for forest treatment activities such as reforestation, mastication, commercial and noncommercial thinning, and prescribed burning on USFS Stanislaus National Forest (STF) lands. This work is being conducted to support Supplemental Project Agreements intended to protect, enhance, and restore forest and watershed health and to bring economic opportunities to the local area.

Working under an ARPA permit issued to HELIX by the USFS, the fieldwork includes intensive surveys of areas that have not been previously examined, as well as the relocation, updating, and avoidance flagging of hundreds of previously recorded resources using STF protocols. Working closely with the County and STF Heritage Resources staff, HELIX archaeologists have conducted fieldwork on approximately 30,000 acres.
