PETE TOMSOVIC

Restoration Discipline Leader

As Habitat Restoration Discipline Leader at HELIX, Pete is charged with promoting, growing, and assimilating HELIX’s habitat restoration activities firm-wide across office locations. Pete works with HELIX’s restoration teams throughout California to leverage the newest science and identify and integrate business and teaming opportunities statewide.

Pete is a rare San Diego native, and he’s had a life-long passion for nature and ecological processes. If it were a category in his high school yearbook, Pete would have been voted by his peers as “most likely to do something outdoors with plants and animals”.

Over the course of his career as a restoration ecologist, Pete has successfully designed, implemented, and managed hundreds of habitat restoration projects throughout California. His project experience ranges across all habitat types including desert, coastal sage scrub, oak woodland, riparian, tidal wetland, chaparral, grassland, vernal pool, and wetland habitats.

Pete has also designed and implemented numerous species-specific restoration projects for listed plant and wildlife species, prepared mitigation plans, long-term management plans, weed management plans, erosion control plans, and whole ecosystem restoration plans for federal, state, local, and private clients.

Pete is certified in wetland delineations and holds a California Department of Pesticide Regulations Qualified Applicators License (QAL) as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in ecology and systematic biology from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. Pete was the former president and served on the Board of Directors for the California Society of Ecological Restoration (SERCAL) and promotes growth in the field of restoration ecology by mentoring peers and leading restoration workshops through SERCAL and other professional organizations.
