Salk Owner’s Association Open Space Restoration & Monitoring

Salk open spaceHELIX Environmental Planning (HELIX) biologists and Construction Group staff worked with the Salk Owner’s Association and a group of commercial developers to restore and maintain approximately 19-acres of native habitat and open space in the City of Carlsbad. The effort included both biological monitoring and maintenance of the project area, in addition to the restoration of both upland and wetland habitats. This project was unique in that it is home to one of the largest populations of the sensitive thread-leaved brodiaea, which occurs throughout the grassland portion of the open space preserve. The open space also includes preserved and restored Diegan coastal sage scrub, as well as a restored riparian drainage, which were both part of HELIX’s 5-year restoration program for the site.
