Principal Planner, Robert Edgerton, from HELIX’s Sacramento County office located in Folsom, has earned the Advanced Specialty Certification in Environmental Planning (AICP CEP) from the American Planning Association’s professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners.
The Advanced Specialty Certification in Environmental Planning is awarded to professional planners who have achieved an exceptional level of expertise in analysis, creativity, collaboration, management and integration of other planning practices in environmental planning. Individuals must be certified planners in good standing, and have at least eight years of experience in environmental planning before taking the comprehensive examination.
APA’s professional institute currently offers advanced specialty certifications in transportation planning, environmental planning and urban design. Approximately 166 AICP-certified planners have earned advanced specialty certifications since the program was launched in 2011.
“Earning advanced specialty certification requires a significant personal and professional commitment,” said Felicia Braunstein, director of Professional Development for the American Planning Association. “The advanced specialty certifications demonstrate a high level of credibility and knowledge within the planning profession.”
Certified planners bring extra value to their employers and community, demonstrating a higher level of leadership, education and professionalism. As a certified planner, individuals are required to operate in a professional manner and uphold a code of ethics.
APA and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, are dedicated to advancing the art, science and profession of good planning — physical, economic, and social — so as to create communities that offer better choices for where and how people work and live. The American Institute of Certified Planners provides recognized leadership nationwide in the certification of professional planners, ethics, professional development, planning education, and the standards of planning practice.
